Back-to-School Classroom Wishlist Checklist

The first weeks of school are the highest-attention window you will get all year. Families are engaged, schedules are not yet full, and everyone is thinking about the classroom. A little structure here pays off through spring.

Four weeks before school starts

  • Take inventory of what survived last year and what did not.
  • Write down the ten items you replaced most often out of pocket.
  • Check your district's policy on classroom donations and gifts.
  • Draft a two or three sentence classroom introduction.

Two weeks before

  • Build your list, weighted toward inexpensive consumables.
  • Add a short reason to each item.
  • Set up your classroom page and add a photo of the room, not of students.
  • Test the link on your phone, exactly as a parent would see it.

First week of school

  • Include the link in your welcome email or first newsletter.
  • Add a QR code to your back-to-school night slides and handouts.
  • Add the link to your email signature.
  • Say once, clearly, that giving is optional.

Weeks two through six

  • Thank every supporter within a week.
  • Share one short update showing an item in use.
  • Remove anything already received so the list stays current.
  • Add the new needs that surfaced once students arrived.

End of the first quarter

  • Refresh the list for the season ahead.
  • Note which items generated the most support and why.
  • Send a single round-up thank-you to everyone who has helped so far.
